About Selco Inc.
Selco Incorporated is a Veteran owned investment / product development firm located in the center of the high-tech industry in Austin, Texas. The company began operations in 1984 as a response to the need for reverse engineering experience in the Electronics Industry. Its founder, Joel Selber, began his career after college as a production Engineer for Tracor Inc. a high-tech military defense contractor in the Austin area, dedicated to the production of sophisticated aircraft countermeasures and other defense related products. He later relocated to the General Dynamics Corp. in San Diego, California where he assumed responsibility for the production of the Tomahawk Cruise Missile then under contract with the Department of Defense. After four years, he elected to return to Austin in 1984 and begin his own business.
During this time frame, Mr. Selber was contacted by the 3M Corporation which had recently moved its Electronic Communication Production lines from St. Paul, Minnesota to Austin. The resultant meeting began a 25 year CPFF relationship between the two companies based on mutual respect and trust. The establishment of a secure EDI network between the two companies allowed the 3M corporation to monitor production routinely, thus creating a plan forward that included metric analysis of costs on a monthly basis.
In late 2010, the 3M Corporation revised the 25 year sole source ISO certified contract agreement to allow Selco, for the first time to solicit outside business. As a result, Selco has moved into the investment / product development business to take advantage of the experience gained after a twenty five year relationship with a Fortune 500 company.
